600 Years expanding in the WORLD

600 Years of Portuguese arrival to Madeira, who marked the beginning of all the Portuguese expansion on the world. Its strategic position in the Atlantic and with all the new expeditions and discovery of new sailing routes, we became a mandatory, and one of the most important Ports of the world from the 2nd half of the XV century, for the sugar trade, and later on the XVII for our amazing wine also, influencing a lot of the old and the new World!

Being personally interested in the Madeiran history and diaspora, with all the events who provided the expansion of the people of have left then Madeira to other parts of the world, also with a big range of family and friends spread through the world, discovered that guide you through your own origins, makes me even more proud of my homeland! Get to know also how the immigration of many of the people who came to Madeira, from many different places of the world and different races and religions influenced and gave origin to many traditions, facts, foods, drinks etc that are exclusive from Madeira!

We have Been doing this type of tours in the last years, started up almost by accident, wen taking an emigrant family with us, and the curiosity made our day even more interesting, that made us dig more in the history, and since then we haven’t missed a chance to learn more, and being able to trace some surnames to specific parts of the island and most importantly, learn more about the Portuguese of Madeira through the world! This makes the investigation process loads of fun, especially when we are able to trace the place where your ancestors came from, especially when if possible meeting some more, mixing with the local’s, through the lost villages, its definitely our idea of an amazing experience!
