Since ever, the ancient larano cliff tour is one of our favourite walks, and not too long ago got maintenance works, turning the parts that were a little bit more difficult, easier to be done. This walk, due to its low altitude can be taken almost all year long, with nice weather. Find below details about the Ancient Larano Cliff Tour or read about our other Madeira Levada Walks.
We start on the south side of the island on a Levada in Machico until we get the ascent to the ancient trails which used to be used to connect the villages, on the north of Porto da Cruz and Machico and Caniçal (on the south). This is a walk suitable for anyone with some experience, as even the more technical parts are still accessible to everyone reasonably fit! A perfect hike for those who would love to walk between sea and land, So when we call it on the Edge of Paradise, its for it! The trail as good maintenance, as we pass at a safe distance and protected ledges on this amazing cliff, scented by the sea breeze, which makes this the perfect habitat for plants that just occurs on this levels, so this walk provides also the observance of the existence of an important diversity of habitats!
This is a mixed walk done in trails and Levada, please make sure you wear appropriate footwear and clothes! All the extra equipment that you may need, like walking sticks, can be provided by us if asked previously, we advise you to wear appropriate, warm and comfortable clothes, and don’t forget to pack your own snack/picnic and water!
