Experience one of Madeira’s most striking coastal hikes with our Sunrise Tip of the Island adventure along the iconic PR8 trail at Ponta de São Lourenço, called the dragon’s tail by many of our visitors, this guided walk is perfect for travelers who want to witness the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean, enjoy panoramic cliff views, and explore a landscape unlike anywhere else on the island!
Set in a dramatic, almost lunar-like environment, the PR8 trail traces the easternmost point of Madeira with rugged rock formations, wind-swept ridges and uninterrupted ocean vistas on both sides. The small-group format ensures personalized attention and a relaxed, immersive experience.
The hike covers approximately 8 km, typically taking about 4 hours, and is classified as easy to moderate, with gentle ups and downs along the coastal trail. After reaching the tip, you’ll relax at Casa do Sardinha, enjoy a picnic and — for the bold — take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters at Cais do Sardinha.
